The Chihuly in the Garden exhibit at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix is one to remember. A short drive from Thunderbird, the Botanical Garden is celebrating it’s 75th anniversary with an array of events and exhibits, including the Chihuly in the Garden. Dale Chihuly is an American glass sculptor who has revolutionized the art of glass blowing and has had collections in over 200 museums worldwide.
The contrasts between his art in nature is inspiring–it feels otherworldly in spots and freeing in others. The contradictions in color certainly permits visitors to leave the real world behind and into a world of imagination and possibility. It is a wonderful way to escape for the afternoon, though as the temperatures start to make the unbearable, you may want to try Chihuly After Dark. Night events in the garden are not to be missed, it’s always a must-do on my list when there is an after dark exhibit and this is certainly no exception. The Chihuly After Dark exhibit is running for the next 6 weekends, 8-midnight, features live entertainment, food and bar. Student tickets are nearly half-price so its not a bad way to spend the night out, taking in Chihuly, some drinks and enjoying the warm night air in the middle of the Desert Botanical Garden.
