This week, LGBT-Birds+ are hosting Trans Awareness week! Trans Awareness Week is from  11/15 to 11/20. Trans Awareness Week is a time for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals and their allies to educate the community and advance advocacy around the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that transgender individuals face. In particular, Transgender Day of Remembrance occurs November 20, when trans advocates raise awareness for the transgender community through education and advocacy activities.

Our club has a full schedule of events to celebrate this week. We are kicking it off with our last Diversity and Inclusion speech of the year, hosting John R. Richards from the international law firm Greenberg Traurig Law on November 17 at 1 p.m. Then, on the 19th, we will be hosting free rapid HIV testing on the Ripple PHX bus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. That will take place on the corner of Polk and 1st Street. Finally, we will be wrapping up this week with a movie on the evening of the 19th at 7:00 p.m., in Room 335 of the Thunderbird Global Headquarters. The movie, Close-knit, tells the story  of a Japanese trans woman and her blended family to see the trans experience from a non-Western perspective. We will have refreshments available at this event.

LGBT-Birds+ would love your support! To learn more about our events and how to attend, check out the posters below.
