Ever felt the need to make an impact beyond the scope of Thunderbird? Thunderbird for Good is looking for a student to represent Thunderbird at the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U)!
The chosen student will hold a paid position and will be helping Thunderbird decide how to spend $10 K towards achieving CGI U goals. The Thunderbird CGI U campus representative will be expected to attend CGI U meetings and guide students on campus towards creating ideas that in the long term will make a difference on their campus. CGI U’s focus areas range from education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health and more often than not are linked to each other depending on the type of initiative. This year, Laureate will be sponsoring the $10K for the student initiatives. To be considered for admission, all applicants are required to make a Commitment to Action.
This Commitment to Action is a unique feature of CGI U membership. Chosen student representatives are expected to translate practical goals into effective results. They are basically are new, specific, and measurable initiatives that address social or environmental challenges on campuses, in communities, or in different parts of the world. The commitments arise from partnerships between students, universities, non-profits, and national youth organizations, with members combining efforts to maximize the reach and impact of the ideas.
Once the representative has been selected, they will have the full backing and support of the Thunderbird Student Government in making sure they are able to reach out to the entire student body, as well as any resources they may need in achieving and making the commitments most cost effective. The representative starts as soon as the selection has been made and will most likely last till April next year, so first year students as well as those graduating in May 2014 are encouraged to apply. The representative will get to interact with CGI U officials on a regular basis, tap into an expansive network and have a great initiative to put on resume!
The deadline for applications for CGI U is November 22nd 2013, so students should reach out to Kellie Kreiser (kellie.kreiser@thunderbird.edu) or Wynona Heim (WynonaHeim@global.t-bird.edu) from Thunderbird for Good as soon as possible!
