A Brief overview of Milk Tea in Asian Culture
Hey Cu-Teas,
Boba became an Asian sensation since the 80s. Although the origin is heavily debated by many boba connoisseurs, it is stated to have originated in Taiwan. It is known for its chewy texture with a sweet accompanying taste that pairs together heavenly with various sweets and drinks. In this case, we will be creating an unbelieva-bubble duo of Milk Tea with Boba, which will surely make you feel bubbly inside!
Ingredients:
- Tapioca pearls
- Black Tea Leaves
- White Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Honey
- Milk or dairy substitute
- Ice
- Water
Step by Step Instructions
Follow these steps and share with your Bes-tea! 😉
“So tell me about the tea” *Sips*
- So first we’ll start by getting 4 tablespoons of black tea and add to a tea infuser. We will add 4 cups of water to our tea pot and heat until Bubblying point
- Once boiling, add the infuser into the tea pot and leave while occasionally stirring for approximately 15-20 minutes and then remove
- Once the magical flavors of the tea work together to create black tea, add around 4 tablespoons of sugar, taste to season, stir until the sugar is dissolved, and from there, cool the tea down in the refrigerator!
Let’s get bubbly!
- Fill 75% of a pot with water and start heating it until it boils!
- Once boiling, add in tapioca pearls and stir vigorously at first until the bubbles float to the top.
- Once floating, cover pot halfway while continuing to stir once in a while (5-10 mins)
- The cooking process of the boba should be finished within 25-30 minutes once it looks like a shiny black pearl
- Once ready, remove from heat and cover fully for an additional 25-30 minutes
- After waiting, it’s time to shock the boba with cold water. After rinsing 2-3 times, it’s time to create the syrup.
“Season to perfection” – Gordon Ramsay
- To create the boba syrup, utilize a saucepan and add half a cup of water. Heat until near boiling
- Afterwards, add half a tablespoon of honey into the water as well as 2 tablespoons of brown sugar. After cooking it down a little, add boba in and stir well
- Now we are about to make this drink Tas-tea!
Time to create the most Tea-riffic drink
- I would recommend a mason jar for the *aesthetics*
- Add the boba to the bottom of the cup (it should still be warm from the syrup) and add in ice cubes (amount does not quite matter)
- Add the refrigerated tea inside the cup until around 80% full
- For the last 20%, add your milk and start the mixing process with a boba straw
- The end result should be a creamy, sweet drink that is perfect for any season any time
Try out other drinks with the boba!
I promise you won’t be disappointed 😉
