This is part of Das Tor’s ongoing series, “Club Spotlight,” in which different Thunderbird clubs describe their mission, goals, and why students should consider joining their group.

The Thunderbird Women in Business club is celebrating its 3rd year anniversary since its founding in January 2019.  The origins of the club were born from the desire to bridge the divide. The founding members, Alexis Sakellariou, Ashley Esquivel, Damaris Bravo, Salome Opoku, Katty Lin, and Sabrina Barwick from the class of 2018 witnessed  the disparity between men and women both in the classroom and working environment. They saw the need for a club that would serve as a platform to build the next generation of female leaders.  Since TWB’s inception in 2019, the club has been making steady strides to live up to its vision to “Empower and connect women in business worldwide.” With this mission, TWB has worked hard with the support of our advisors, Professor Mary Sully de Luque and Kellie Kreiser to bring many notable guest speakers from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and expertise. TWB believes that the best way to learn is through experience sharing, as these create connections that will last.

In 2022, TWB played host to  two prominent speakers who are powerful women in their industries  – Susan Golberg, the former Editor-in-Chief of National Geographic, and Kate Masschelein, the worldwide president of Ethicon. As we move further into the year, the new leadership team will be looking towards generating more value to its members through open forums, workshops and social gatherings.
