UntitledOn Friday, March 22nd, 2013, the Global Supply Chain Club (GSCC) and Project Management Club (PMC) partnered with Magna Powertrain to bring an exciting case competition to campus. Two faculty members and eight supply chain and project management professionals judged the competition. To top it off, $1200 in prize money was up for grabs.

The day started with a presentation by Magna Powertrain offering students insight into the industry as well as highlighting opportunities with their company.

In all, ten teams totaling thirty-eight students were given four hours to tackle a challenging case involving the sourcing of rare earth materials. Despite the time crunch, all teams presented excellent solutions.  The team of Jon Paul Aultman, Bharat Sai Rajiv Reddy, Bryan Dempsey, and Ajay Vaddi took first place.

For many students, this was their first case competition and they appreciated the chance to use their skills and gain experience. “This case competition offered me the best chance to apply my knowledge acquired in the classroom to real business,” said Mandy Chen ‘13. “Besides, it even gave me the most wonderful time working with and learning from my amazingly outstanding teammates!”

Be sure to keep an eye out for other great GSCC and PMC events this trimester! PMC will be hosting a speaker on agile management on April 1st from 6-7pm in Snell 23, and the Phoenix chapter of the Project Management Institute will be holding an interactive session on campus April 6th from 10am-3pm.
