Deschutes Brewery conducted a beer tasting event on campus at the Thunder Pub on Thursday. People could taste a shot of beer of their choice and give their feedback. Rotem Bar, a second year student who owned a bar before joining Thunderbird, tasted a shot of summer ale and said the beer was strong, tasty, and “summerish”. Andrew Ariagga, an incoming student from Texas commented that the pale ale is balanced, moderate, and “dilutable”.

Steve, an employee of Deschutes said that their Mirror pond, a pale ale, is the second best selling in the U.S. and their Black butte porter accounts for 75% of porters all over the U.S. The brewery started in 1988 as a family business and is now one of the largest in Oregon. They have 4 major products – Twilight (summer ale), Mirror Pond (pale ale), Inversion (IPA) and Black Butte (porter). Tastes and feels of beer can be associated with the place that it comes from – cool, relaxing, easy-going and comfortable.  Labels on their bottles also have picture of these places so that people can connect with them. Deschutes brewery tries to give back to the society and therefore recycle in every possible way. Remnants of grain from brewery are given away as fodder to cattle. More information on their beers can be found at www.deschutesbrewery.com.
