Dear Thunderbird Community,
I hope you’ve had a great week. Thunderbird’s Board of Trustees was on campus this week. The board continued their deliberations regarding potential partners and continue to make progress. Your TSG President and Vice President, Giacomo and Casey, partnered with Executive MBA student, Anthony Dezilva, to present to the board this morning. They did a wonderful job representing the concerns of the student body and were direct and serious, while at the same time positive and highly professional. You would have been proud.
Here is what you’ll find in this week’s update:
1. Thunderbird announces fall 2014 AIESEC scholarship recipient, Alina Buzgar
We are excited to announce that Thunderbird has awarded its first, full-tuition AIESEC scholarship to Alina Buzgar of Romania. Thunderbird has long been an active supporter of AIESEC, which is a global not-for-profit organization that provides leadership opportunities and international internships to undergraduate students. Alina, who served as the Vice President of Human Resources for Romania’s West University of Timisoara AIESEC chapter before graduating in 2005, told us AIESEC made a tremendous impact on her life as an undergrad, but she didn’t dare to think she could find a similar opportunity at a graduate school. “Thunderbird won me over as soon as I learned how much the mission, vision and strategies of the school are like AIESEC,” she says. “And when I met the Thunderbird staff, students and alumni I knew it was right for me.” Alina will begin her MBA in Global Management here this fall.

9. Today’s featured “Your Success is My Success” story – Thunderbird’s Peru TEM Lab Team having a big impact
Over the first summer module, the TEM lab team of Santiago Peralta, Danielle Rinderknecht and Jennifer, with a big assist from MS student Fiona Teerlink left for Peru to consult with the Regional Government of Piura. The project started as an assignment to evaluate business plans but quickly shifted into formulating and delivering “Train the Trainer” style workshops to catalyze the needed knowledge transfer that would result in future client self-sufficiency. That was the tip of the iceberg for them, however, their scope also included deriving objectives for an expected three-year relationship between Thunderbird and the client, developing suggestions for government-based small business support, and creating a model used to measure the impact of the relationship. After five weeks, they have achieved their objectives, developed great relationships, and enjoyed some of the world’s finest ceviche. Their debrief presentation will be this coming Wednesday, July 2nd, in Yount 100 at 1:00 PM.
Well done, Peru TEM Lab team!
All the best,
Rebecca
